House on the Props
Bed & Breakfast with harbour views
House on the Props
The idyllic Cornish fishing village of Polperro is home to the historic House on the Props. Nestled at the heart of the village next to the harbour and amid ancient fishermen’s cottages you will find our lovely B&B and restaurant. The House on the Props is a great place to unwind and relax, an ideal base for exploring the South West coastal path and surrounding areas and provides a year round coastal bolthole in a unique setting.
The Building
The Props occupies a beautiful location within the village, enjoying picturesque views across the harbour. Breakfast and lunch is served daily all year round and the restaurant is open for evening meals during high season. The restaurant serves a variety of delicious, homemade meals and lighter options all made using seasonal, locally sourced ingredients. As well as this, you can enjoy a range of delicious cakes and Cornish scones, made fresh daily.
The dining area is full of historic interest with nautical and smuggling artefacts. The beams and masts in the Props restaurant came from the Maverine which foundered in circa 1700 and the building is often referred to as ‘the house on stilts’ because of its unique design.
Around Polperro
Polperro is home to a Model Village, a Heritage Museum and several art galleries. You will be spoilt for choice when it comes to eating and drinking. At weekends you can find lots of live music and entertainment around the village. The House on the Props is situated directly on the South West Coastal Path – ad ideal place for a 2 night (or more) stay to cover the Fowey to Port Wrinkle section of the famous coastal path. The best selling book The Salt Path – a memoir about a couple who walk the 630 mile path – is currently being made into a film….come and see it for yourself!
A great place
